Which one are You? Leader or Manager

Most of the people bear the statement that Managers are born not trained; well let me tell you this most of those people are managers. The most common difference is that a managers tell the employee what to do where as the leader does it with them.
A manager is mostly concerned with the provided strategy and administrates the action and task which are required to go about the strategy. In my view as managers are trained not born so he will replicate the actions of the past manager as well.

The set of processes and guidelines which are in action will be followed by employee as managers job is to ensure that. The focus is how and when is a task oriented environment. He accepts the status quo and ensures to do the things right.
In contrast I believe that leaders cannot be trained they are born with the genes to be harness their potential. They are not structure or strategy focused rather then people focused. Continuously look for ways of improvement and has the originality in his approach and ways. Instead of looking for direction a leader provides one. Focuses on What and Why and keeps eye on the horizon. Leader is ready to face the challenges when needed and does the right thing at the right time.

The identified points are just illustrate a simple difference between the manager and leader.

Managers
  1. Managers have employees
  2. Managers react to change
  3. Managers have good ideas
  4. Managers Communicate
  5. Managers take credit.
  6. Managers direct group

Leaders
  1. Leaders have followers
  2. Leader create the change
  3. Leaders implement the ideas
  4. Leaders persuade
  5. Leaders take responsibility
  6. Leaders create teams.

Even though training may impart some knowledge of managing however the skill of management can be influenced from people as it is an art and it cannot be acquired over night and requires experience and training whereas the traits of a leader can not be inculcated and thus are inbuilt. A manager cannot be a leader whereas a leader can be a effective manager.

Working Hard or Working Smart

The success of the person is determined by the work he does as it is the way to take him to the next level. Now the question is which way to go about. Should it be only hard work that takes us ahead or is it smart work that takes us far.

In my view the hard work is necessary to
develop sound understanding and skill necessary for going ahead though it is time consuming and exhausting and take too much of concentration. It takes you away from important things like family, personal leisure etc.

In terms of determination and persistence hard work is important but confined achievements can be attained with it. Working hard is not enough as it might not bring the best result of a problem or a situation. You get limited understanding of the possibilities you can explore with this approach.

In contrast smart work is really the need of the hour it is the way to get more work done and reach you goals quickly. It saves your time and allows you to be more organized and learn a lot. Doing smart work allows you to save time for other things which you might not get by doing hard work like, exercise, spending time with family etc.

It is true to some extent based on experience that I have but working smart requires you to have sound understanding of the domain or field that you are currently functional in. Smart work brings lots of recognition from the peers and society & allows you to take growth in the company with pace whereas hard work does not require utilization of brain activity to the extent that smart work does.
At work, we come across hard workers, who only focus on getting their work done, but sadly, they don’t get the proper recognition from their bosses. This is because they forget to do important things like building good relationships and making their voices heard.

To cut it short it can be identified that both hard and smart work approach is the key for true success. But the connection is like a building block you have to work hard to harness the skill that will allow you to do smart work later down the line. So create smart goals and objectives and device your working approach accordingly to get the outcome you desire and do not simply focus on your work but get to know people too; try to enhance your interpersonal skills and time management skills and you will get recognition quickly.

Corruption a sign of governance deficit

The basic definition of corruption is “dishonest or fraudulent conduct by those in power, typically involving bribery”. These few and precise words sum up the entire concept yet there are very few who can relate to it. With reference to governance it can be defined as “The misuse of public power (by elected politician or appointed civil servant) for private gain”

Pakistan is suffering from numerous economic issues and the cause of all these disorders is the prevalent institutionalized corruption. Not only government departments are infected with moral deterioration but private institutions are also involved in money making games.

We the people of Pakistan for years have been suffering due to the governance of such so called illiterate official and institutions. Considering the poor management of distribution of electricity in the country resulting in long hours of load shedding, more than 20 hours a day. This is deliberately being done by the corrupted officials. Do you honestly think that with availability of resources and the projects at hand we cannot overcome this deficit if the governance body wanted to?

Approximately around Rs 130 billions are being embezzled in water and power ministry annually.

The people of Pakistan are facing this injustice due to the absence of law with in the governance body. The only institution that is playing active role in the annihilation of corruption is the so called supreme court of Pakistan which seems to be the only hope for the deprived people of country.

The country is being broken from within by the increased corruption in public infrastructure leaping towards a total collapse. Yet no one is bothered as no one is directly suffering due to it. The only way out of this situation is to associate the corruption with the treachery and dealt accordingly because the impacts of both are fatal.

Pakistan’s current major problems have taken rise from the corruption that needs to be addressed seriously rather than ignoring it. The country’s image is being tarnish at global level that is evident from the fact that despite country’s call for help during dire circumstances & disasters no or less response was shown by the world.

Social media is slaying Society & Individuals

The social media sites and its pros are in abundance. Its availability has allowed us to stay in contact with our loved ones near and far. We are able to stay in touch with the changing world or find out the worlds opinion to the question on or mind.
According to Cornell University's Steven Strogatz, social media sites can make it more difficult for us to distinguish between the evocative relationships
we foster in the real world, and the numerous spontaneous relationships formed through social media. By spending and driving so much of our time and energy on related activities and establishing these meaningful relationships resulting in the weakening of connection which really matter in life.

The readily availability of these site is not only to the most creative of minds but also to the people who corrupt the very existence of humanity. Especially Kids are most vulnerable to the drill of cyber-bullying in which the perpetrators, anonymously or even posing as people their victims trust, terrorize individuals in front of their peers. The devastation of these online attacks can leave deep mental scars.

Most of the businesses also direct a large amount of their efforts to get a strong foothold by using these sites yet it has proved to be a great distraction to employees who are more interested in finding updated about their social circle rather than the task at hand.

The most affected aspect of such sites relate to the privacy of a individual. Now a days if you want to find out what is happening in the life of individual all you need to do is to read the latest post or status on their page; the things they post remain available indefinitely. Intimate details of our lives is available for all the world to see yet we find it difficult to discuss with our loved ones.

Browsing these sites can make you feel connected to a larger community, but such easy, casual connection in an electronic environment can also have its downside.
